As a departmentalized 5th grade teacher I’m responsible for a science class, writing class, and three math classes. To say that the grading can be overwhelming is an understatement. I only have a 30 minute prep time each day. So I don’t have much time at school to get the planning and grading done each day. I know that I’m not alone in this situation. Last year I decided that I needed to be more present at home. I had to figure out how to take less school work home with me while also getting the school work done at school. It all started by just deciding that when the busses rolled off the lot my son and I were rolling too. Each day while my students started to pack up for home I did the same. I cleaned my desk off and packed my own backpack. I started using every free moment to get my school tasks done at school. It was amazing when I started refusing to take things home. Self-Grading Google Forms To the Rescue
Using self-grading assignments have been a total game-changer for me. It allows me to give my students the same high-quality assignments without the time-consuming grading process. I use a variety of Google programs with my students but my favorite has to be Google Forms.
I love them because they are so easy to assign, self-grading, and Google Classroom will automatically import the grades into my grade book. A simple math quiz can be assigned, graded, and in my grade book in less than 3 minutes. It’s a dream come true for any busy teacher!
